Well, first of all, my name is Colby Cline. I live in Thompson Falls, Montana now and teach at the
elementary school. In the summers I help out on the family farm in Fort Benton, which is about 300 miles away. This is
where I mainly derby because the payouts are very good.
I first became interested in derbies when I was just a little kid. My uncle derbied and built some very strong cars. His
favorites were the old Lincolns. I can still remember sitting in front of the arena with the stands packed and how much I
wanted to be out there. My first derby was when I was 20 years old, "way back" in 1992. It was the
biggest adrenaline rush I've ever experienced. I dinged my arm pretty good, but didn't notice it until the next day. The
next day I also looked at my helmet and saw that there were small chunks out of it from hitting the roof. As I have become
older, my body takes a lot more time to get back to normal after the derby. I mainly derby in Fort Benton and Havre,
but there are about 7 or 8 derbies within 150 miles of where I live. I plan on trying to get to a few more of these.
